Design of a non electric coconut grater that improves food preparation processes.

Coconuts play a significant role in the Indian cuisine and culture. It is a very versatile fruit with many nutritional benefits.

After visiting different household and speaking to people of different Indian states, I understood how much the handling of coconuts varied around the country.

Opportunities:

  • Maximum usage of the coconut

  • Posture of user

  • Collecting mechanism

  • Safety

  • General simplification of the process

  • Movement

For Whom:

  • Those who are new to using coconut in their meals, mainly targeting North India.

  • Those who require easy, less time consuming and safe products which, by simplifying the preparation processes, would encourage them to consume coconuts.

The Blade Study:

Different formats of blades were tried out in order to understand which would produce the maximum output with least amount of effort. The rounded blade was the winner, as it covered the most surface area and would allow the retention of the shell which could then be used for other purposes.
